Marquez: I have to KO Pacquiao because you know what will happen if I don’t

Image: Marquez: I have to KO Pacquiao because you know what will happen if I don'tBy Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez absolutely feels he’s going to knock Manny Pacquiao out when they fight on December 8th to avoid getting jobbed for the 4th time. Marquez, 39, has zero faith in the judges giving him a decision no matter how badly he schools the Filipino in front of what will likely be a sold out MGM Grand crowd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Marquez told RingTV “There is no way that I can let this fight be a decision, because if I do, everyone knows what will happen. That’s because the judges aren’t doing their jobs.”

I hate to say it but I agree with Marquez. He better come prepared to KO Pacquiao and keep him down long enough so we don’t see him getting up and the fight going to the cards. Marquez has had the worse luck I’ve ever seen fighter get in fighting one and getting the better of him over and over again and yet not getting the decision each time.

I don’t know Marquez even bothers to tell you the truth, because by now he should realize that the chances of him getting a decision are remote at best. For some reason the judges seem to side with the more popular Pacquiao each time he fights Marquez even though Marquez is the one landing the cleaner shots, controlling the action and show boxing superiority in virtually every round of the fight. If I was Marquez’s trainer I’d tell not to bother because he probably won’t get the decision again, and the fans won’t be happy watching him lose yet another controversial decision.

Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, sees this fight doing well on pay per view, but I don’t know that it will. When boxing fans watch a fight and see the perceived loser winning the fight over and over again, they tend to lose interest in seeing the guys fight again. The only way you can get the fan interest back is if you lower the price for the fight or stack the undercard with top talent in competitive match-ups. I’m not holding my breath waiting for either of those things happening. The price of the Pacquiao-Marquez 4 card will likely be $49.99, and the undercard will probably be disappointing, filled with mismatches between prospects and 2nd tier fighters.
