Image: Golden Boy says Alvarez-Lopez card sold out, but tickets still available(Photo credit: Tom Casino/Showtime) By Eric Thomas: Golden Boy Promotions announced that Saturday’s Saul Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez card is a sell out at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, tickets are reportedly still available at Ticketmaster, says Dan Rafael. So what’s up with that? Is is a sell out or isn’t it?

You have to wonder what’s the real story. Is Golden Boy just trying to show Top Rank that their card is as successful as theirs? The Top Rank Chavez Jr-Martinez card reportedly sold out on Thursday, which isn’t surprising due to how popular Chavez Jr.

The Golden Boy Promotions fight card is excellent with Alvarez-Lopez, Marcos Maidana vs. Jesus Soto-Karass, Jhonny Gonzalez vs. Daniel Ponce De Leon, Leo Santa Cruz vs. Eric Morel, Sergio Thompson vs. Carlos Claudio, Eddie Gomez vs. Quinton Whitaker, Carlos Valcarcel vs. Andres Gutierrez and Francisco Vargas vs. Victor Sanchez.

I personally prefer this card to the Top Rank card on the same night in Las Vegas in a pay per view bout on HBO. This is the fights on that card:

Roman Martinez vs. Miguel Beltran, Sergio Gabriel Martinez, vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Robert Marroquin, Matthew Macklin vs. Joachim Alcine, John Jackson vs. Willie Nelson, Wale Omotoso vs. Daniel Sostre, Michael Medina vs. James Winchester and Mike Lee vs. Paul Harness.
