Image: Darchinyan easily beats Del Valle(Picture: Edward Diller – DiBella Entertainment/Star Boxing) By Jim Dower: Previously unbeaten Louis Del Valle (16-1, 11 KO’s) was considered to be too young, too strong and too talented for the old veteran 36-year-old Vic Darchinyan (38-5-1, 27 KO’s)n going into their fight tonight at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort, in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

But Darchinyan ended up dominating the 25-year-old Del Valle, beating him by a lopsided 10 round unanimous decision by the judges’ scores of 99-91, 99-91 and 96-94. Forget the last score, because there’s no way Del Valle, who resembled more of a punching bag than a fighter, fought well enough to lose by only two points. He was completely dominated by Darchinyan in every area of the game and ended up taking an enormous amount of heavy shots to the head and body in losing this fight.

Del Valle fought well in the 9th after hurting Darchinyan with a big shot to the head. However, Darchinyan made it out of the round in one piece and sprayed Del Valle with hard left hands in the 10th and final round to seal the easy win.

Del Valle may have been lulled into thinking that Darchinyan was past his best, as he came into the fight having lost his last two bouts. However, Darchinyan was far from over the hill as Del Valle found out the hard way. Del Valle tried to go toe-to-toe with Darchinyan in the fight, and he simply didn’t have the game to make that kind of fight. Part of the problem for Del Valle was that he stepping it up in a huge way against Darchinyan, as he never fought anyone even close to Darchinyan’s talent and he just looked lost out there against for the most part.

Darchinyan fought really well in the 7th with a lot of his big left hand power shots hitting Del Valle in the head.

The only positive I could see from Del Valle’s performance was that he showed a major league chin in taking all of Darchinyan’s shots without going down. That was pretty admirable but he needed to more than just a punching bag tonight.
