Image: Sergio Martinez thinks Pacquiao deserved to get a win over Bradley, but he feels he should have lost to MarquezBy Chris Williams: Former WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez feels that Manny Pacquiao should have gotten the “W’ in his recent loss to Tim Bradley last June. Martinez thinks that Pacquiao did enough to deserve the win. However, he feels that Pacquiao should have been given a loss in his fight against 38-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez last year in November.

Martinez told examiner.com writer Chris Robinson “I believe that Manny won. The same way that Marquez beat Pacquiao.”

I agree with Martinez in part. I’m in agreement with him in thinking that Marquez should have gotten the win over Pacquiao, but I don’t agree that Pacquiao deserved a win over Bradley. How could he? Pacquiao was only fighting hard for a tiny portion of every round near the ends of the rounds instead of working hard all the way through it the way that fighters are supposed to if they want to win.

Bradley’s movement had Pacquiao looking like a fighter seven years old in his 40s rather than a 33-year-old. I’m sorry but I’m not in support of fighters winning decisions when they’re only willing or capable of putting out effort in the last seconds of the rounds. That’s what lazy, out of shape or old fighters do to try and win rounds. If you’re body or your mind isn’t letting you fight hard for the full three minutes of every round then you can do one of two things: retire or work harder in training camp so that this doesn’t happen again.

I imagine Pacquiao was in the best possible shape for the Bradley fight, and he was taking on a guy with two hurt angles/feet. If Pacquiao couldn’t beat Bradley under those circumstances then I don’t know what to think about him. I do know that if Pacquiao can’t fight hard for three minutes of every round in his next fight in November after a hard training camp, then he should probably retire.
