Image: Proksa not ready for GolovkinBy Scott Gilfoid: EBU middleweight champion Grzegorz Proksa (28-1, 21 KO’s) is stepping into a fight on September 1st that he won’t be ready for against WBA World middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (23-0, 20 KO’s) at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, in Verona, New York.

The most you can really hope for is a quick knockout loss for Proksa so that he doesn’t have to suffer much against Golovkin, because if he stays in there for 10 rounds or so of soaking up big time punishment it could affect his long term career.

Proksa doesn’t have the experience, the size or the talent to compete with a fighter like Golovkin. We’re not even talking about a winnable fight because it’s not a winnable one for the limited Proksa. The only thing that’s up for grabs is maybe a learning experience for Proksa if he doesn’t get battered too badly.

Proksa can punch pretty well himself, but he’s not in the same league as Golovkin and he’s so crude and wild with his shots. He’s going to give Golokin so many chances with his Mayweather-lite fighting style.

If this fight came a little on in Proksa’s career maybe he wouldn’t get slaughtered so badly, but it would have to be after Golovkin has lost his skills way late in his career. We’re talking levels here.

Proksa has wins over Sebastian Sylvester and Kerry Hope, but that’s it and neither of those guys can punch. They’re totally inadequate in preparing Proksa for the pounding he’s going to be receiving from Golovkin on December 1st. Proksa should really be fighting at 154, because he’s only a half inch taller than Miguel Cotto and he doesn’t have the height or reach to compete against the bigger middleweights that have talent. He can beat guys Sylvester and Hope, but that’s not really the class of the division, is it?
