Image: Quillin: Martinez will knock Chavez Jr. outBy Dan Ambrose: Unbeaten middleweight contender Peter Quillin likes what he sees in the September 15th fight coming up next month on HBO PPV between Sergio Martinez and WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Quillin feels that Chavez Jr’s size could be a problem for the 5’10” Martinez in this fight. However, Quillin believes that Martinez’s talent will get him a knockout in this fight.

Quillin told ESPN “I can see Martinez looking good, knocking him [Chavez Jr] out.”

Quillin does think Chavez Jr. has a good chance of winning because of his his likely weight advantage over Martinez, and he Chavez Jr. might get a KO if he can use his strength.

This potentially could be a good fight but I think it’s ultimately going to wind up as a mismatch because of Chavez Jr’s lack of hand speed, defense and his inability to fight effectively against a mover. Bob Arum of Top Rank has been careful in matching Chavez Jr. against guys that are pretty much stationary fighters that moved little and just stood there in front of him.

Martinez will be the first fight in which Chavez Jr. will be fighting someone with a good set of wheels, and his first fight against someone with huge power. Chavez Jr. won’t be ready for the power, speed and movement from Martinez and he’ll likely try and walk through his huge shots like he’s done against his other opponents. Trying to walk through Martinez’s punches is going to wind up getting Chavez Jr. badly hurt and knocked out.
