By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. was released from the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada after serving only two months of an 87 day sentence. Mayweather was released early on good behavior for his domestic battery case.

Despite having been in for two months and having had problems eating the jail good, Mayweather looked in excellent shape, almost like he could step in the ring and fight if he had to.

Unfortunately, Mayweather didn’t give any comments to the media while on his way out to his Bentley, but who could blame him. The man has been cooped up for two months and many boxing fans were happy to see Mayweather knocked down a peg. Naturally, he might not be the happiest person having had to endure such an experience. But Mayweather will learn from this and be ready to move forward with his life.

It’s sad that Mayweather didn’t get to see his nemesis Manny Pacquiao lose his WBO welterweight strap against Tim Bradley last June, as the fight wasn’t beamed into the Clark Country jail unfortunately. Mayweather no doubt would have loved to have seen the fight. Although having Pacquiao lose to Bradley wasn’t a positive for Mayweather because it will lessen the interest in a future Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. If Pacquiao is getting beaten even by guys like Bradley, it will dramatically sap interest in a future Mayweather vs. Pacquiao.

It’s unknown what direction Mayweather Jr. will head in now that he’s a free man. He can fight almost anyone and still draw huge pay per view numbers. He doesn’t need Pacquiao, because giving the Filipino a 50-50 deal, which is what Pacquiao has asking for, won’t give Mayweather much more money than he’d get fighting other fighters. As such, there’s no real upside to fighting Pacquiao unless he agrees to a 30-70 deal.

Mayweather will have to reapply for a new boxing license in Las Vegas if he wants to continue to fight there. However, given the huge amount of money that Mayweather brings to Las Vegas each time he fights, I can’t see the Nevada State Athletic Commission denying him a boxing license. That would be like them shooting themselves in the foot if they were to say no to Mayweather and it’s not going to happen.

Mayweather was kept in protective custody during his stay at the Clark Country Detention center as a precaution just in case one of the inmates might have wanted to get at the famous fighter.

Last year, Mayweather made $85 million, making him the #1 on the Forbes richest athletes.
