Image: Khan: Emanuel Steward and the Mayweathers want to train meBy Dan Henderson: Amir Khan has told the British press this week that he intends to announce his next opponent in the coming weeks and also he will confirm whether he will be staying with Freddie Roach or hiring a new trainer.

No one is sure who his next opponent will be because we know it won’t be a rematch with Danny Garcia because he decided to milk his title a bit by fighting a past his prime Erik Morales, he can’t step up to welterweight and face Paulie Malignaggi because he is facing Pablo Cesar Cano, so no one is sure who he will face but one can assume that it will be an easier opponent following two straight defeats so with that in mind we can rule out a potential domestic showdown with Kell Brook.

In recent news Marcos Maidana has vacated his regular WBA title to campaign at welterweight. So could the former WBA champ Maidana and Golden Boy fighter come to an arrangement which would see Amir fight for the vacant title against a 2nd tier opponent? Whoever he faces he needs to win because a third straight defeat will end his career.

Will Khan go into his next fight under the tutelage of Freddie Roach or will it be someone completely different? Ever since his defeat to Danny Garcia there have been question marks surrounding his partnership with Roach and will it be coming to an end? I think it should because in my opinion because he needs a fresh approach because let’s face it he hasn’t changed that much since he began working with Roach. In regards to the subject this is what Khan told the British media:

“I’ve had so many trainers approach me in the past week or so from all over the world, who say they can make me into a great, unbeatable fighter,” said Khan. “I’ve had Emmanuel Steward, I’ve had the Mayweathers. It’s a big decision to make and it’s all about taking my time. I’m still with Freddie at the moment but who knows, maybe in a week’s time things might change. “It’s all about sitting down with my team and seeing who will suit my style if I am going to change trainers. “There are going to be a lot of things that will change for the next fight and you will see a new Amir Khan because the last fight was a wake-up call. “In a week’s time we should know exactly what’s going to happen; who the opponent will be and where the fight is going to be.”

So who do you think Khan should face? Who should be Khans trainer? Let us know your thoughts.
