If Marquez doesn’t get the fight with Pacquiao, he says he wants to defend his World Boxing Organization 140 pound title against one of the top contenders.

Marquez told the “Being active is important and I look for a fight in November. I want to defend my title or I’m looking for a 5th world title. But I think I am more inclined to defend my belt and then seek a champion in another division.”

Marquez went on to say that he wants to fight Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson, and Devon Alexander in the future.

Marquez, 38, hasn’t fought since defeating Serhiy Fedchenko to pick up the WBO interim light welterweight title last April. Before that, Marquez lost a questionable 12 round majority decision to Pacquiao last November. Marquez badly wants a chance to try and avenge the loss to the Filipino fighter, but Pacquiao hasn’t been in a hurry to get back in the ring with him. It took Pacquiao three years to fight Marquez after after beating him by a questionable 12 round split decision in 2008 in a fight that a lot of boxing fans thought that Marquez should have won.

If Marquez doesn’t get the rematch against Pacquiao in November then he can choose from the following fighters for his next bout:

Brandon Rios
Mike Alvarado
Lamont Peterson
Ruslan Provodnikov
Lucas Matthysse
Adrien Broner
