Dirrell signed with TMT Promotions recently hoping that it will help him get the bigger named opponents in the division. Dirrell wants to fight the winner of the August 25th fight between WBO super middleweight champion Robert Stieglitz and Arthur Abraham. It’ll be interesting to see if 50 Cent [Curtis Jackson], Dirrell’s promoter from TMT Promotions, will be able to get Dirrell the big fights or not. Dirrell also badly wants to get a rematch against IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch, who beat him by a controversial decision in October 2009.

By the time that Dirrell enters the ring on November 17th he’ll have been out of action for 11 months. Dirrell last fought in December of last year, beating Darryl Cunningham by an impressive 2nd round TKO. It was thought then that Dirrell would start fighting regularly again, as he’d been out of action for a year and half prior to that fight. As such, Dirrell has only fought once in the last two and half years and that’s not good.

Dirrell has got to start fighting on a more regular basis if he ever wants to get a title shot. The way he’s doing it now is going to give other top fighters and excuse not to fight Dirrell. This is why Dirrell needs to fight at least four times a year when he’s not holding down a world title fight. Anything less than that is pointless.

It would be great if TMT could line up a rematch between Dirrell and Froch, because Froch is looking for an opponent for his November fight after unbeaten 168 pound contender Thomas Oothuizen decided not to fight him next. Dirrell is available for the fight if Froch wants to change it. I doubt he will, though, because Dirrell did a real number on him the last time they fought.
