He last fought earlier this month in beating 40-year-old Tony Thompson by a 6th round TKO. The performance was one of Wladimir’s better ones, but his opponent left a lot to be desired unfortunately.

This has been a growing trend for Wladimir, as his opponent before that was 39-year-old Jean-Marc Mormeck, who Wladimir crushed in four rounds in March of this year.

Speaking with Cnn.com, Wladimir said “I’m a seasoned fighter and that means I have to stay busy, so I fight twice this this years and by the end of the year – November, December – I’m going to defend my titles again. I don’t know who is going to be the next opponent because I just fought recently.”

There had been talk of Wladimir possibly facing heavyweight contender Chris Arreola (35-2, 30 KO’s) in December in Madison Square Garden. However, the talk of that fight has gone quiet, and it’s easy to see why. Arreola has done next to nothing since losing to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and Tomas Adamek in 2009 and 2010. While Arreola may have a seven fight win streak going right now, he’s done it against very weak opposition, and it’s disappointing that he’s been reluctant to fight actual contenders.

Arreola really needed to keep himself in the limelight by facing guys with a name who could actually fight instead of looking for soft touches like the guys he ended up facing. As such, a fight between Wladimir and Arreola may not happen. Wladimir might be better off trying to lure someone like Tyson Fury into the ring, if he can get the UK based fighter to take the bout. That might not be easy, because Fury is taking his time with his career and doesn’t want to fight for a major title until he feels he’s absolutely ready.
