Wilder-Manswell: Deontay getting closer to the top

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight phenom Deontay Wilder (23-0, 23 KO’s) is on the brink of hitting the 1st tier and a victory over Kertson Manswell (22-5, 17 KO’s) this Saturday night may be all that’s needed to get the 26-year-old Wilder to at least a top 15 ranking.

The 6’7″ Wilder faces Manswell at the Exposition Hall, in Mobile, Alabama in what will likely be a packed hall full of Wilder fans. You can expect another Wilder knockout and that’s not because Manswell not a good fighter, because he definitely is a quality fighter with major league power. Yes, he’s got some holes in his game, but he’s someone that is a nice step up for Wilder.

I rate Manswell well above Audley Harrison, and he’s fighting David Price next. Wilder doesn’t have any fear of facing good opponents. He knows he’s going to be getting a title shot sooner or later if he can keep knocking guys out left and right the way he’s been doing since he turned pro in 2008.

Wilder’s right hand is the difference in his game and most of the other heavyweights in the division. The closest heavyweight with power similar to Wilder is IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, but even he doesn’t hit as hard as Wilder. Wladimir has a better jab and left hook than Wilder, but he doesn’t have a better right hand. But Wladimir doesn’t let his right hands go like Wilder does. That’s what makes Wilder so good, because he’s not afraid to pull the trigger on his huge right hand power shots to score knockouts.

Manswell is in for a world of hurt on Saturday. He’s been hurt before by lesser punchers and the only way he’s going to survive for long against Wilder is if he runs all night long. That won’t work but it’ll at least delay the inevitable a little.
