Image: Froch: Khan might be too confident for Garcia boutBy Sean McDaniel: After watching an interview where Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) proclaimed that he’s a “Superstar in the sport”, IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch said that he’s concerned that Khan might be overconfident for his fight against WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KO’s) tonight at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Froch said on Sky Sports Ringside “The danger is if he [Khan] takes the fight for granted. A lot of people are picking him to win, and he’s on a high right now. As long as he doesn’t buy into the hype too much. He’s calling himself a superstar. That fine, because if you don’t believe you’re superstar than no one else will. But you don’t often hear people calling themselves ‘Superstars,’ so I’m hoping he doesn’t take this fight too lightly because I think this is the only danger.”

Former super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe summed up his views on Garcia, saying “He’s a good fighter, he’s undefeated, he can punch, but he struggled [against Erik Morales]. Morales was really unlucky not to win that fight, and I think Khan’s speed is the key. If he controls with his fast hands, he should win this fight.”

Despite the positive comments that both Froch and Calzaghe made towards Khan, they also saw him making a ton of mistakes in his last fight against Lamont Peterson. Froch saw no plan B from Khan, and felt he was just coming straight in at Peterson, and then resting on the ropes. Froch feels that this wasn’t what a world class fighter would do, and he questioned Khan’s decision making by doing that.

Calzaghe also noted that Khan didn’t have a plan B, and was easily dragged into an inside war against Peterson.

Khan probably won’t have to worry too much about Garcia’s inside game, because he really doesn’t fight on the inside all that much. He prefers to use his long arms to fight on the outside. Garcia may to change his game tonight if he wants to keep from getting outpointed by Khan.
