Image: Chisora: Haye caught me with a lucky shotBy Allan Fox: For boxing who saw the David Haye – Dereck Chisora fight last weekend they almost unanimously saw Chisora get dominated from start to finish in his 5th round TKO loss at Upton park. However, Chisora said afterwards that Haye hit him with a “Lucky punch,” when Haye nailed Chisora with a big left hook followed by a right hand that knocked Chisora down for the first time in the 5th.

Haye quickly finished Chisora off after he got back up, hitting him with a five punch combination that sent Chisora down for the final time in the fight.

At the post-fight press conference, Chisora said “He [Haye] chucked a lucky shot and I went down.”

The left hook that Haye hit Chisora with was hardly a lucky shot, because Chisora was rushing Haye in a wild manner without much defense and getting hit with some tremendous shots. Those were far from lucky, because Chisora was so wide open to getting hit. What was lucky was that Chisora lasted five rounds fighting with that kind of pressuring style. The fighting style worked well for Chisora against big heavyweights like Robert Helenius and Vitali Klitschko, but against Haye it was a style that was really tailor-made for Haye to succeed against. Haye loves fighting opponents that brawl with him in a wide open manner like Chisora was doing. You couldn’t have picked a better opponent for Haye to look good against if you tried.

Chisora continued “By the third round I realized he didn’t have anything. He was chucking but everything was missing. He was catching my hands. I wasn’t working the jab for some reason. I got caught with a lucky shot.”

Don’t you just love how Chisora gives Haye a lot of credit for beating him?
