Image: Adamek to fight on September 8thBy Dan Ambrose: Tomasz Adamek (46-2, 28 KO’s) will be looking to get back in the ring on September 8th against an opponent to be determined at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey. Adamek, #6 IBF, #13 WBC, also plans on fighting in December if he doesn’t take too much punishment in the September fight.

He’s not likely to face anyone dangerous, so the chances are pretty good that Ambrose will be able to fight at the end of the year for his fans in New Jersey.

Adamek won’t be fighting American Eddie Chambers in September, because Chambers injured a tendon in his left bicep and he won’t be available for the fight, although he probably wouldn’t get the rematch with Adamek even if he were injury free. Adamek looked poor in beating Chambers by a questionable 12 round decision while fighting in front of a home crowd in Newark, New Jersey earlier this month.

Chambers, fighting with just his right hand, was still able to get the better of the slow and wild Adamek the entire fight. Adamek missed all night long and looked like an old fighter well past his prime.

Adamek likely won’t face anyone nearly as good as Chambers until he gets another title shot in the future. I think they misjudged how much Chambers still had left in the tank after having fought only once in the past two years. Don’t look for Adamek to make that mistake twice. It’ll likely be older journeyman from here on out until he gets a title shot in a year or two.

Adamek fought WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko last year, and was easily beaten by a 10th round stoppage. Adamek doesn’t match up well against the Klitschko brothers, and his best hope is to face WBA champ Alexander Povetkin before someone beats him.
