Kessler would have been in trouble had he been in with Dawson or Cloud

I’m sure by now Green is unhappy with himself for not really making a big effort to finish Kessler off after he had him hurt in the 1st round. This allowed Kessler to come back and eventually score a one punch knockout in the 4th round when he connected with a left hook to the jaw of Green at the same time that Green was looking to throw a left hook of his own. Kessler’s shot got there first and it sent Green down flat on his back out cold on the canvas.

I think Kessler needs to move back down in weight to 168lbs because he’s really kidding himself if he thinks he’s going to do anything at this weight other than maybe beating one of the paper champions. If Kessler’s goal is to fight WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, which I seriously doubt he wants anything to do with, Kessler will get dominated and knocked out. He’s not as big or as skilled as Dawson.

I think Kessler can maybe just maybe beat WBA champion Beibut Shumenov, but that still will be a very, very hard fight for Kessler. IBF champion Tavoris Cloud would beat Kessler with no problems. He’d be too powerful for him and would take him out. As for Cleverly, it’s not even a bout that Kessler would likely bother with because Cleverly hasn’t facing anyone of note to make a name for himself, so he’s not even worth even mentioning. Maybe someday Cleverly will start fighting some quality opponents, but I’m not holding my breath waiting for that to happen.

There’s really only one fight for Kessler at light heavyweight and that’s Dawson, but Kessler shouldn’t take that fight unless he wants to get beat. If his handlers want him to try and pick up a paper title, then he needs to go after Cleverly or Shumenov. I guess Kessler would then milk the title for a couple of years against the weak opposition that the IBF and WBO have ranked in the top 15.
