Things happen in boxing

By Hector Gonzalez: The biggest mistake he made in all of this is getting caught.

First of all, don’t be naïve, BOXING IS A CORRUPT sport. This may sound far fetch to some, but I’m willing to bet that most fighters are currently on some kind of performance enhancement drug. Just because they’re not being caught does not mean that they’re not on it or have been at some point in their career. I’m not trying to sound accusatory, I’m just being realistic.

Also, if you really want to talk about cheating, look at ALL THE VERIABLES, was Marquez cheated vs. Pacquiao, was Abril cheated against Rios, what about fighters that are paid to lose- that’s probably the biggest taboo in boxing and yet it’s probably happening right under our noses. What about instances like Nonito Donaire who was walking into the ring at 135 when fighting at the official weight of 118, is that an unfair advantage, shouldn’t he instead be mandated to fight at 126- 130?

Was Barrera a victim of Amir Khan, was McCloskey a victim of Amir Khan, what about Marcos Maidana who was not allowed to work the body… it appeared to me that Khan had an unfair advantage in the Maidana fight. Has Amir Khan had an unfair advantage all these year’s head locking opponents, hitting on breaks, or hitting when pushing the opponents head down, all of that is against the rules and he’s clearly been getting away with it. People should instead focus on Amir Khan’s lack of basic boxing fundamentals like working on his defense, generating leverage in his punching, and keeping in mind that many boxing aficionado’s want to see Khan lose anyway because he’s unlikeable. He claims that he could beat Mayweather—reality check, Mayweather has defeated Castillo, Corrales, Gatti, De La Hoya, Mosley, Cotto all of those fighters high profile prized fighters, Khan has not defeated one high profile fighter let alone a future hall of famer (besides Barrera)- and all while Peterson won a controversial decision, Khan would lose to any of those names listed above.

Assuming that boxing finally gets reliable testing done—do you really believe that ‘boxing will be clean’, There are MANY VARIABLES– you still have judges to worry about, you have corrupt promotion teams to worry about, you have gloves to worry about, you have referee’s to worry about. What about instances when the fighter with the stronger promoting team makes the opponent fight in the weight class that they require, what about the opposing fighter not having a say on the gloves size they want to use… are those not unfair advantages. Theirs millions of dollars on the line, corruption is a part of boxing. Yeah it sucks!! Just don’t act too surprised about it.
