Image: Saul Alvarez will have to go after Mosley if he wants the KOBy Dan Ambrose: WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (39-0-1, 20 KO’s) will be looking to add 40-year-old Shane Mosley’s scalp to his resume on May 5th, and Alvarez won’t be just looking to win by a decision. He wants to get the knockout against “Sugar Shane” to excite his boxing fans who will be watching it both live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and on HBO pay per view.

Mosley, however, may make it tough on Alvares to get the KO by using his feet to run around the ring.

If you look at Mosley’s two recent losses to Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., the one constant was Mosley moving and looking like he was just trying not to get knocked out. Mosley didn’t look like he was trying to win either fight, as he ran and clinched constantly, throwing few punches to speak of. It there’s one knock on Alvarez, it’s his slow feet. He’s not really fast at getting around the ring and seems to fight a lot like a junior middleweight version of George Foreman.

Alvarez doesn’t move quick enough to go after a fighter that is looking to run from him, and that’s where Mosley escape from being knocked out. Forget about the fight being competitive or Mosley having a chance at winning. He doesn’t. He’s too old and is just coming into the fight being used as a name for the 21-year-old Alvarez’s resume and to get boxing fans interested in dumping $54.95 to watch the fight on PPV.

Mosley might try to fight back in the first few rounds, but it’ll be clear by the 4th that Mosley has gassed out and has no chance of winning the fight. He’ll then likely revert to form and start running like he did against Pacquiao to survive the fight on his feet rather than taking a knockout defeat.
