Image: Mayweather: Cotto ain't ready to die; I'm ready to die on May 5thBy Dan Ambrose: Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn’t believe that Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) is ready to pay the ultimate sacrifice by putting his life on the line on Saturday night. Mayweather says he’s ready to put his life on the line if neccessary for him to get the win over the Puerto Rican star and to take his WBA junior middleweight title.

Mayweather said “Cotto ain’t ready to die; I’m ready to die on May 5th.”

When Mayweather says he’s ready to lay his life down in order to get the win, I believe him. He wants to win that badly. You won’t see Mayweather taking a couple of knees when things start going badly for him like Cotto did in his 11th round TKO loss to Antonio Margarito in 2008.

Likewise, you won’t see Mayweather stressing out if he’s bleeding like a stuck pig like Cotto was in his fights against Margarito and Joshua Clottey. Mayweather is one of those fighters that stays calm when he’s bleeding. He’s not going to drop his knees and tke the easy way out if Cotto happens to bust him up on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather will be a like a captain of a ship. He’ll down with that ship rather than looking to take a lifeboat to escape the icy waters. Mayweather will take whatever punishment that Cotto will bring to him and keep coming back for more.

Cotto is going to have to push through pain in this fight, because he’s going to be taking a major beating. He can’t lose his senses when things start looking bleak for him early on, because that’s the likely scenario for this fight. Cotto has to keep his mind clear and ready to take whatever Mayweather dishes out for him to have a chance to win. Can Cotto do this? I’m not so sure that he can. He took some knees against Margarito, and looked like he wanted to quit in the Clottey fight. Sure, Cotto hasn’t taken any knees in his last three fights, but then again he’s been fighting guys with injuries and old age. Of course, he’s not going to take a knee against those guys, but against Mayweather I think we may see Cotto going back to his old ways and dropping to his knees for the 10 count.
