Image: Groves pulls out of world title fight; but could it be mind games?By Dallan O’ Donnell: Unfortunately British super middleweight champion has had to pull out of his world title fight against champion Robert Stieglitz because of an injured nose which his camp expects to be fully healed in 10 weeks.

Groves has said that he still hopes to set up the fight against the WBO super middleweight champion after the healing process. This is the second consecutive fight Groves has pulled out of after pulling out of a scheduled re-match with Scott Lenny Anderson. In that case it was Groves’ back that was the issue.

The boxing public would have to wonder though are these injuries real? Adam Booth is the trainer and manager in the equation, the same trainer that had David Haye pull out of a fight with Vladimir Klitschko which no medical certificates were produced. So could all the postponing of fighting be mind games? Could they have realized in training that he was not ready for a world title shot.

Nobody can be sure however (unless they produce medical certs) except for the camp themselves. Personally, I think Groves is ready for a title shot. I know he has only 14 fights in his professional career but he has fought at the O2 arena to a frenzied 15,000 fans against James DeGale, which he won. Going to Germany of course is much different and he will, if the fight happens, be an underdog against DeGale too.

If he is to fight Stieglitz and if he is to pull off the victory then he will be a better fighter for it. Learning your trade as a world champion in the pro-ranks will be much more beneficial in the long run. A showdown with DeGale is surely somewhere down the line in both men’s careers and if they are both world champions then that adds a certain extra flare to the occasion as if it needed it of course. Hopefully Stieglitz still fights Groves and gives him the title shot as it would be good for British boxing to have another possible world champion. Follow me on Twitter @dallan09
