Chambers and Adamek fight it out on June 16th

By Jim Dower: Tomasz Adamek (45-2, 28 KO’s) wants to keep his perch in the heavyweight ranking in his next fight against former World heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KO’s) on June 16th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Adamek, #10 IBF, #10 WBC, picked up a victory in his last fight against Manuel Quezada last month in an impressive performance by Adamek. He staggered Quezada in the 3rd round and dominated most of the fight with his boxing ability and movement.

Chambers is a rare opponent for Adamek at the heavyweight level that actually has some talent. Adamek has been spoon fed for the most part other than his fight with Vitali and a badly out of shape Chris Arreola, who was tailor made for Adamek. Chambers has some hand speed, and the only question here is whether the ring rust has overtaken his once impressive skills.

Chambers seems to have lost his way since being knocked out by IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in the 12th round in March 2010. There was still so much time left in the year after that loss, but Chambers took the remainder of 2010 off, and then fought early in 2011 against Dereck Rossy, who Chambers beat. But Chambers has done nothing at all since that time and wasted the remainder of 2011 and now four months of 2012.

Chambers has to win this fight over Adamek and then get busy with his schedule to force another world title shot. Chambers looked horrible against Wladimir Klitschko. He tried to fight with Wladimir in early, but as soon as Wladimir landed a big right hand early on, it changed Chambers, making him more timid of getting hit. He stayed on the outside for most of the bout and just looked to survive until the final bell.

Adamek looked awful against Vitali. He spent most of the fight running in circles from Vitali trying not to get hit.
