The 26-year-old Boytsov’s promoter is working on trying to set Boytsov up with a fight against Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko for a title shot.

The Klitschkos manager Bernd Bonte said to the Bild “Of course, Boytsov is a potential candidate for both Klitschko brothers.”

Boytsov, #2 WBC, #3 WBO, #4 WBA, #5 IBF, has been waiting around what seems like forever as one of the top contenders without getting a shot. It’s not that the Klitschkos haven’t been interested, because they have. But Boytsov’s management has wanted to take things slowly with him to bring him along the right way without tossing him into a fight that he’s not ready for.

Recently, Boytsov was put in with a couple of decent fighters in Darnell Wilson and Dominick Guinn, beating both of them quite easily. It would still seem a tad bit early for the 6’1″ Boytsov for him to face one of the Klitschkos, because he should at least fight a legitimate contender before facing one of the Ukrainian Klitschkos. Going from facing the likes of Guinn and Wilson to a fight against the Klitschkos isn’t the smartest thing to do.

Although Boytsov dominated Guinn by a 10 round unanimous decision last Friday night on the undercard of the Felix Sturm vs. Sebastian Zbik fight in Cologne, Germany, Boytsov’s power didn’t look all that impressive and his size was underwhelming. At 6’1″ 218lbs, Boytsov looked like a cruiserweight fighting a heavyweight, and he wasn’t able to hurt Guinn with anything. Boytsov looked like smaller, less powerful and loss active version of Alexander Povetkin. Even Marco Huck, the WBO cruiserweight champion, looked better than Boytsov in Huck’s recent fight against Povetkin last February. I rate Povetkin and Huck as being better fighters than Boytsov. I like Boytsov’s triple left hook he likes to throw, but his right hand isn’t much of a weapon and he rarely uses it. Ideally, Boytsov needs to move down to cruiserweight because he’ll be crushed by the Klitschkos and will have problems against the other big heavyweight contenders in the division. But it looks like the Klitschkos will attempt to get a fight with him because it’ll be an interesting fight in Germany where Boytsov is well known, but not so big in the rest of the world. Boytsov is mainly known by hardcore boxing fans in the United States.
