Image: Mayweather doesn't see Khan as having an exciting fighting styleBy William Mackay: If Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) plans on getting that dream fight that he’s been talking about for the past year against undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. then Khan is going to have to look a lot more impressive in his rematch against IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) on May 19th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan did too much running, shoving and holding in his recent loss to Peterson last December. That’s a big strike against Khan, because Mayweather was completely turned off by the performance by Khan and felt he should have been disqualified for the fouling he did against Peterson.

Mayweather told the independent.co.uk “The kid has to remember that it is ‘lights, camera, action.'”

Khan has a chance to prove himself worthy of a Mayweather fight if he can stop running, shoving and holding Peterson in their rematch and make it an exciting fight to watch instead of another foul-plagued marathon from Khan. If Khan beats Peterson in the rematch but does it with the use of running and fouling, then it won’t likely get him any nearer to a fight against Mayweather. Khan has to make a believer out of Mayweather and most of all he’s got to impress. Mayweather specifically said that Khan runs too much for his taste and that’s practically kiss of death. When a fighter in the class of Mayweather says that Khan runs too much, he’s basically saying he’s unsuitable as an opponent because he doesn’t want to have to chase him around the ring all night long or have to deal with other things that Peterson had to last time out.

Khan said in the same independent.co.uk interview “I am the biggest name in British boxing and possibly in Europe so for him to say that is just ignorant.”

It seems like Khan is having a hard time acknowledging what Mayweather is trying to make him understand. Mayweather is saying that Khan’s running fighting style isn’t exciting and Khan instead seems to be looking at his popularity in Europe and the UK as a crutch.
