By William Mackay: Promoter Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sport is ready he says to finally take the training wheels off of his fighter unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (26-0, 18 KO’s) when and if he can get by former EBU welterweight champ Matthew Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO’s) this Saturday night in their fight at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom.
Hearn said to Boxrec.com “Khan, Ortiz, Berto, Maidana and Alexander are all fights that we want to make this year. We will have 10,000 fight fans in the Motorpoint Arena in Shefffield for Brook vs. Hatton, so what sort of numbers do you think a fight with Amir Khan would do?”
I think Hearns should get the idea of Brook getting a fight with Khan completely out of his head, because that’s probably not going to happen this year, next year, the year after and the year after that. I think the only way I see Brook getting a fight against Khan is if Khan is in a real way with his career in shambles after a series of knockouts to where he’s in need of a cash out payday. But other than, I can’t see Khan taking on a dangerous opponent that has punching power and counter punching ability like Brook. That’s not going to happen. Khan will likely skip that fight for as long as he finds success.
Brook has to make sure he can get by Hatton before his promoter Hearn starts looking at what’s for dessert, because Hatton is going to be coming in looking to take Brook out to ensure he can spare his high ranking with the World Boxing Association. Hatton knows everyone will be watching this fight and he doesn’t want to let down his friends and family members by getting beaten up and took out by Brook. He’s going to be fighting really hard to try and land the upset and send Brook home a loser.
