Image: Roach: Pacquiao will stop Bradley late in the fightBy Chris William: Like clockwork, trainer Freddie Roach is predicting yet another knockout win for his No.1 fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s) on June 9th against unbeaten Timothy Bradley (28-0, 12 KO’s) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Roach has been predicting knockouts in pretty much all of Pacquiao’s fights going back ages, but Pacquiao is slowing down and no longer knocking guys out.

Pacquiao hasn’t recorded a knockout since getting a controversial 12th round TKO stoppage over WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto in their catchweight fight in November 2009. It was controversial because Cotto was still fighting back when the referee jumped in and halted it. I thought it a bad stoppage because Cotto still was okay and fighting back hard. He didn’t like the stoppage and I don’t blame him one bit. But the thing is Pacquiao just doesn’t have the power to be stopping guys anymore. Maybe it’s the weight class or just age rearing it’s ugly head and taking away Pacquiao’s skills. It’s hard to say but what you can’t argue with is the facts. Pacquiao hasn’t stopped anyone in his last four fights dating back to March 2010, and his last knockout was controversial. The guys that Pacquiao did stop around this weight class didn’t look good. He stopped Ricky Hatton, who looked weight drained, and Oscar De La Hoya, who REALLY looked weight drained. And then were was Cotto in the catchweight fight. Cotto didn’t want to fight at a catchweight fight. But you know how that is. He took it anyway to get the payday.

Roach told Boxingtalk.com “I think Manny will have a spectacular win. The fans want to see a knockout. I want to see a knockout. Bradley is aggressive; he comes to fight and will be fighting until the end but I think Manny will catch him coming in, and knock him out in the later rounds.”
