Image: Hatton: I'll beat Brook and then get a world titleBy William Mackay: Matthew Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO’s) battles unbeaten Kell Brook (26-0, 18 KO’s) next Saturday night in a 12 round bout at the Moterpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK. While most boxing fans feel that the 30-year-old Hatton will give a good account of himself in losing the fight, next to nobody sees Hatton as winning against the #2 WBO, #5 IBF, #5 WBC, #6 WBA Brook. Hatton not only sees himself winning the fight, but he also believes he’s going to move beyond that to win a world title.

Hatton told express.co.uk “I’m confident I’ll beat him and then get my world title. I’ve always believed I could achieve that.”

Hatton, #9 WBA, makes it sound as if he’s going to a local grocery store to buy a dozen eggs with the way he describes beating Brook and moving onto win a world title. It just doesn’t sound too realistic given Hatton’s past history. He was easily beaten last year by 21-year-old Saul Alvarez in a failed attempt to win the vacant junior middleweight title. You can say that Hatton didn’t belong as junior middleweight, but the real difference that separated Hatton and Alvarez in that fight was in the power department. Alvarez no quicker than Hatton, but he was a stronger and able to dominate him with ease despite Hatton’s excellent boxing skills. It’s not that Hatton can’t fight; it’s his lack of power. That right there is going to be a real problem for him against Brook because he’s lot stronger and is a superb counter puncher. Hatton will try but he won’t be able to compete without the power needed.
