Does Chisora deserve another world title shot?

Image: Does Chisora deserve another world title shot?By William Mackay: It’s looking like British heavyweight Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) will be getting another shot at a world heavyweight title a little this year against WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin as long as Povetkin wins his next fight against challenger Hasim Rahman.

Povetkin and his manager are reportedly interested in facing the 28-year-old Chisora in the fall. Chisora doesn’t have a boxing license, but that could be remedied possibly by Chisora going to Russia to get the license if the British Boxing Board of Control fail to give him his revoked license back upon appeal.

So does Chisora deserve another shot at a heavyweight title when he was beaten last time out?

This is the issues I have against Chisora getting another shot at a heavyweight title:

* Chisora has lost three out of his last four fights

* He’s not ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies

* Chisora’s questionable behavior before and after his last fight against Vitali Klitschko – i.e., spitting in Wladimir Klitschko’s face, slapping Vitali and getting involved with a brawl with David Haye after the fight.

By giving Chisora a fight right now would seem to be almost rewarding him for his string of losses and the attention he got by his questionable behavior. I think it wouldn’t be fair to the other contenders ranked in the top 15 if Povetkin was to scoop up Chisora from the 2nd tier to give him a world title shot without him being ranked or having redeemed himself from all those recent losses. I don’t care if Chisora looked good in the Vitali and the Robert Helenius fights. He still lost and he didn’t look good against Tyson Fury. Three losses out of four fights, that’s too much. How can Chisora be given a world shot off of those defeats?
