Image: David Price says he won't fight the Klitschkos for another 18 monthsBy Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated former super heavyweight Olympian David Price (12-0, 10 KO’s) says he won’t be facing either of the Klitschko brothers for at least another 18 months at the minimum, as he plans on capturing the British heavyweight title on May 19th and then defend it a couple of times before going after the European Boxing Union (EBU) title.

Price to Sky Sports Ringside that he doesn’t see himself facing the Klitschkos for 18 months. However, it will likely be longer than that with his his slow plans of defending the British title and then going after the EBU strap. My guess is Price won’t be facing a Klitschko until 2014 or 2015 at least. The good news is Price won’t have to worry about facing and getting knocked out by WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, because he’ll likely be retired by then. Price can dodge that bullet at least. The bad news is Price will be older and will be 30, and when you get big fighters like the 6’8″ Price hitting their 30s, you start to see breakdowns in terms of injuries. That’s the thing with big fighters. They’re at their best early on and then start to have problems once they get to 30. It may not a problem for Price but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what happens because he’s not exactly the most limber heavyweight you’ll ever see and I can see him breaking down in one way or another.

By waiting so long to fight Wladimir, Price will improve his chances of winning but also mess things up for him because Wladimir could retire by the time Price starts making his move or he could decide to dodge Price until retiring. The 35-year-old Wladimir wants to fight Price now because he’s in his prime, but he might not feel the same way when he hits 37 or 38. It doesn’t matter, though, I still Wladimir easily destroying Price even well into his 40s. Price can’t jab and has terrible defensive skills. And his chin is brittle as heck. One good shot from Wladimir and we could see Price hitting the deck face first.
