Image: Vitali: Chisora and Haye have the same skillsBy Allan Fox: In Wednesday’s conference call with WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, he had some interesting things to say about his opponent on Saturday night Dereck Chisora, who Vitali sees as basically on the same level in terms of skills as former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye.

That’s somewhat shocking news, because Haye is often considered to be a highly skilled heavyweight or at least he used to be before his loss to IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitscko last year.

Vitali said this about Haye and Chisora: “He [Chisora] has exactly the same skills of David Haye, but David Haye was coming from cruiserweight. Dereck Chisora is a real heavyweight fighter and that why he has much stronger punch…they both probably have the same skills.”

Haye, 210lbs, is a definitely smaller heavyweight than the 240+ Chisora and he doesn’t the frame to mix it up with the super heavyweights like the Klitschkos, as we saw in his fight against Wladimir. Haye was flying around the ring each time he was bumped by the 245 pound Wladimir and it’s not surprising. He just didn’t have the weight on his frame to be taking on someone that big unless he could land his big shots and he wouldn’t commit.

Chisora weighs around 245, but he’s carrying around and 20-25 pounds of flab on his physique. He’s not a muscular 245. If you put him on a diet to take off that extra flab, Chisora, 6’1″, would probably scale around 220. He’s obviously not a real big heavyweight either when you factor in that he’s carrying around a certain percentage of fat that isn’t helping him. He can punch a little but only when he loads up and puts everything he’s got into a shot. He’s not someone that can punch with huge power with every shot. He’s kidding himself if he believes he can punch with Vitali. He’ll get knocked out on Saturday unless he fights carefully and tries not to get hit.
