Ortiz, 24, isn’t impressed at all with what Mayweather has accomplished during his career.

“I don’t really see a whole lot,” Ortiz said in an article at supersport.com. “He’s [Mayweather] fought some decent guys, but guys that who were on their way up or on the way out.”

Ortiz is perhaps talking about Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley and to a slightly smaller extend Juan Manuel Marquez when speaking about guys that are nearing the ends of their careers. Although Marquez and Mosley are still fighting, both are in decline and not the same fighters they once were at the time Mayweather fought them.

Talking down Mayweather’s accomplishments and ability can potentially set Ortiz up to look silly if Mayweather makes easy work against Ortiz like a lot of people think he will. Ortiz is very beatable, especially when facing guys with pinpoint accuracy like Mayweather.

To be sure, Ortiz beat Andre Berto in his last bout last April, but he struggled against Berto in that fight and was only really able to take command of the fight in the second half when Berto tired out from the fast pace. Hopefully Ortiz isn’t counting on Mayweather doing the same thing, because it may not happen and Ortiz will be left having to fight it out against a very good counter puncher in Mayweather.
