Image: Khan: Kevin Mitchell will beat Katsidis in a rematchBy Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan is picking fellow countryman Kevin Mitchell to beat hard hitting Australian Michael Katsidis in a rematch if they end up fighting next. There’s a lot of speculation that Frank Warren, the promoter for Mitchell, will go ahead and make this fight next for Mitchell.

Last year, Mitchell was trounced by Katsidis in a 3rd round TKO. Katsidis was too fast, too powerful and too skilled for the lightweight Mitchell. It was embarrassingly easy for Katsidis. Mitchell recently received a surge of confidence after beating fellow Brit John Murray by an 8th round TKO.

Mitchell’s loyal fans think he’s back, and that’s capable of beating Katsidis now. I totally disagree. Mitchell beat an inexperienced fighter with limited hand speed and power. Mitchell always would have beaten this guy.

Khan said this on Sky Sports Ringside: “Mitchell is a great fighter. If he sticks to his boxing skills and his game plan, he’ll beat Katsidis. If the rematch could happen, I’d put my money on Mitchell.”

Khan doesn’t stop there, he thinks Mitchell can be a world champion soon. “Definitely. He looked really good against John Murray. It’s showing that he’s serious now, like he wants to win a world title. I think he’s got his [Katsidis] number now. I think he’ll go in there and beat Katsidis.”

I think Khan is dreaming. Mitchell beating Murray isn’t the same thing as Mitchell facing Katsidis. And Mitchell certainly won’t be winning any world titles anytime soon as far as I’m concerned. Can you imagine what would happen to Mitchell if they threw him out there with Brandon Rios or Juan Manuel Marquez? It would be sickening out easily he would be beaten, even worse than the beating Katsidis will give Mitchell in a rematch.
