Image: Froch vs. Ward: Carl will have to rebuild after he loses on October 29thBy Scott Gilfoid: It’s interesting to see WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO’s) looking past his October 29th Super Six tournament finals bout against WBC super middleweight champion Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KO’s) and dreaming of a rematch against Mikkel Kessler.

Unfortunately, that fight won’t be happening because Ward is going to badly beat Froch next month and win every round of their fight at the Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Kessler wants to face winners, not losers and that leaves Froch kind of out in the cold where he’ll have to look for other alternatives. To keep facing the top guys you have to win and impress.

Froch has been struggling for the most part in the last two years against upper level fighters and on October 29th, he’s going to struggle badly in a one-sided loss. Froch really should have two losses in his last four fights, because his win over Andre Dirrell was really a loss in my book, and in the views or more than a few non-biased fans.

Froch went from the Dirrell fight into the Kessler bout and was beaten again, although this time he actually got the loss on his record. Sadly, Froch still thinks he should have won that fight. He stubbornly resists the painful reality that he was schooled in that fight by Kessler and maintains he should have won. So sad. Kessler didn’t do as good of a job on Froch as Dirrell did, but he gave him a good schooling that’s for sure.

Now it’s Ward’s turn. I expect it to be even more one-sided than those two fights because Ward has seen enough tape of Froch’s fights to know all of his weaknesses by now. Ward probably knows Froch better than he knows himself at this point. Ward has already pointed out that Froch is living in denial about his fights against Kessler and Dirrell, as if Froch refuses to see the painful truth about how poorly he fought in those two bouts.

Ward will give him reality on October 29th, and I just hope Froch is open-minded enough to accept the truth about himself when the Super Six tournament trophy is handed to Ward at the Boardwalk Hall and his arm is raised in glory on that night. This win will make a huge star of Ward, perhaps even in the Floyd Mayweather Jr. class. He’s going to be huge after this fight and will be able to pick and choose whoever he wants to fight. It might even make him a PPV star overnight.
