Yes, professional boxing is a business but it is becoming a low quality show. Where is the pride and the arrogant macho attitude of the old time fighters? Now prizefighters avoid each other and make all kind of absurd excuses to do so.

How would you describe a paper title champion? The one who did not won the belt against the weight division champion, the one who won a vacant organization title, the one who was spoon fed tailor made rivals to conquer a major organization belt, the one who has a padded record full of past his prime, not worthy opponents or the ones that are just to old to compete, or the one that won a organization title and never defended it.

I would describe a paper title champion as an illusion created by a promoter, not a real warrior just some one who has charisma, the one that inherited a prestigious last name, also the one that keep on avoiding dangerous contenders, oh lets not forget the one who is protected by his promoter or a major boxing organization.

It is not new but it seems like it is a trend to see how many of these new paper title champions are manufactured by the greedy promoters. Even old lions are in for the new trend and it is a real shame.

I believe robberies by local judges is a tradition in professional boxing, boxing fans are aware of this infamous tradition but also are aware that there is very little to do to avoid a local decision but to assume it could happen. But to allow the paper champions trend to continue is inconceivable.

The current Top Ten Paper Title Champions are:

1. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., highly protected & spoon fed, also won the belt in a controversial decision against the interim then promoted regular middleweight WBC champion Sebastian Zbik.
2. Marcos Maidana went from interim to regular champion after loosing to the real light welterweight WBA champion Amir Khan.
3. Erik Morales was awarded a manufactured WBC junior welterweight title to achieve a personal record.
4. Alexander Povetkin new WBA heavyweight belt on the line for him to pick.
5. Andre Berto – highly protected & spoon fed.
6. Vyacheslav Senchenko – highly protected & spoon fed.
7. Saul Alvarez, a talented fighter but also protected & spoon fed.
8. Austin Trout won a vacant WBA light middle belt but the real champion is Miguel Angel Cotto.
9. Cornelious Bundrage defends his IBF light middleweight belt once a year and never really defend it against top oposition.
10. Manny Pacquiao – only fights the most profitable fighters avoiding dangerous contenders.

On the other corner there still are real Champions that are not afraid to face the best contenders available in their weight division, and some of them are avoided for no valid reason. Cheers to legit world boxing champions such as: Bernard Hopkins, Andre Ward, Sergio Martinez, Felix Sturm, Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez, Jorge Arce, and Nonito Donaire.
