Image: Duva: The Polish cab drivers think Adamek will beat VitaliBy Dan Ambrose: Let’s get this out in the open right away: Pretty much nobody sees heavyweight Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) beating WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) next Saturday night on September 10th in their fight in Poland.

However, there are some people who think Adamek can win, says Kathy Duva, the 34-year-old Adamek’s promoter. She says the Polish cab drivers and fans of Adamek in Poland think he’s going to win.

Here’s what Duva had to say at ringTV: “If every cab driver in Wroclaw is to be believes, Tomasz is the favorite. The cab drivers are kind of a barometer of the people..Everybody here in Poland is picking Tomasz Adamek to win.”

That’s nice. I guess I’ll put all my hopes on Adamek winning based on what the Polish cab drivers are saying. It doesn’t sound as if Duva is too confident about Adamek’s chances. When you get to the point where you’re talking about cab drivers to get boxing fans exciting about your fighters’ chances against one of the best heavyweights in the world in Vitali, it’s not a good sign. Let’s face it, this is a mismatch, and it doesn’t matter what one or million cab drivers are saying in Poland.

Adamek is too little, and his style is not conducive to him winning this fight. If he had blazing hand speed like David Haye, and huge power to go along with it, then, yes, I think Adamek would have a much better chance of winning. But Adamek doesn’t have good hand speed, he doesn’t have huge power, and he certainly doesn’t have huge size.

Adamek is short, slow, with average power for a small guy. He’s facing a super big fighter with long arms, excellent power and a nice jab-left hook combination. And Adamek’s style of fighting doesn’t help him either. He runs around the ring all night long, sprinkling in a shot here and there before running off again. It’s a very economical style of fighting and it only works against guys that are more limited. I don’t think Adamek could even beat a good contender like Roberto Helenius, Denis Boytsov or Odlanier Solis with that style of fighting, let alone a great champion like Vitali.

What’s going to happen next Saturday night is Adamek is going to get taken apart by Vitali. Adamek will runm, Vitali will chase, and Adamek will get blasted out when he finally runs out of running room. It’s as simple as that.
