Klitschko-Adamek: Tomasz looking good but still out of his league in this fight

By Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight challenger Tomasz Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) is looking in superb shape for his September 10th fight against World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) at the Stadion Miejski, in Wroclaw, Poland. Judging from the recent photos of Adamek, I’d say he looks to be in the 215-220 lbs range in weight.

That’s a good weight for Adamek if he were facing a small heavyweight or one of the big heavyweights that are lacking in talent in the heavyweight division. Unfortunately, Vitali is neither of those fighters and Adamek is simply going to be crushed if he comes to fight on September 10th.

I think Adamek isn’t going to try and actually exchange with Vitali, and will just look to poke with his jab and run all night long in a safety first game plan. It’s asking a lot of Adamek fight any different than from what he’s been fighting like since he moved up to the heavyweight division in 2009. I suspect that Adamek is hard-wired to fight defensively and can’t change even though it will mean that he’ll lose every round of the fight to Vitali.

I know how I would fight Vitali. I would go right at him and try to tire him out and hope to get lucky in the second half of the fight. But that’s probably not how Adamek will fight him. He’ll do what he’s been doing against guys like Michael Grant and Kevin McBride. Adamek will throw reaching jabs to the midsection and then scurry away to try and keep from getting hit. This will repeat itself round after round until the final bell. In the meantime, Vitali will be lighting Adamek up with jabs, left hooks and straight hands and piling up a huge lead in a one-sided fight. This will be a huge mismatch with Vitali beating Adamek like a drum while Adamek’s Polish fans have nothing to cheer for and have to sit and watch the beating.
