Image: Kell Brook could face Rafal Jackiewicz in OctoberBy Scott Gilfoid: Number #2 WBO welterweight ranked contender Kell Brook (24-0, 16 KO’s) could be facing contender Rafal Jackiewicz (38-9-1, 19 KO’s) in his next fight in October. I guess this is supposed to be the big contender that Brook has been talking about. Jackiewicz is kind of up their in age at 34, and has a couple of decent wins on his resume against guys like Jan Zaveck and Delvin Rodriguez.

However, taking away those fights, Jackiewicz has fought exclusively B and C level opponents during his career. It’s not much of a step up from Brook’s last opponent Lovemore N’dou. I see Jackiewicz as around number #15 in the welterweight division.

In other words, a bottom feeder. I wasn’t expecting much from Brook because he’s been matched softly his entire career so this doesn’t surprise me. The only time I can see this guy stepping up in competition is when he fights for a title at some point and gets wiped out.

It’s too bad his handlers don’t want to put him in with a real top guy like Mike Jones, because it would be good to at least develop the guy. Even if he loses, which I suspect he would, Brook could learn something in the process. But matching him against guys like Jackiewicz is just a continuation of Brook being matched softly.

I’ve seen Jackiewicz fight on a number of occasions and I’ve not been impressed at all. He looks like a decent ESPN2 level fighter, but not someone I would consider a talent. Oh well, sooner or later Brook will get his shot at a champion and get destroyed. I guess he can start all over again with the easy match-making to build him up.
