Cloud vs. Pascal a possibility for December

By Allen Fox: Former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KO’s) could be facing International Boxing Federation (IBF) light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (23-0, 19 KO’s) in December. Pascal’s promotional team is reportedly looking to make the fight with the 29-yer-old Cloud on December 17th at the Pepsi Coliseum, Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

If this fight can be made it would an interesting bout, as Pascal has excellent power and great speed. And Cloud is noted for his high work rate.

Pascal, 28, lost his World Boxing Council title in his last fight to 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins last May. Pascal had problems throwing enough punches to win, and ended up getting outworked. On paper, Cloud would seem to be the wrong type of fighter for a guy like Pascal to beat, as Cloud tends to have a very high work rate when he fights. He also has a good chin and doesn’t shy away from mixing it up. Pascal defeated Chad Dawson last year in August.

However, Dawson was the perfect opponent for Pascal in that he didn’t throw many punches and looked afraid of getting into exchanges. That’s not how you beat Pascal. Cloud isn’t afraid to bring the leather and will be looking to take Pascal’s head off from the 1st round.

Normally fighters that lose as badly as Pascal did to Hopkins like to go back to the drawing board and try and learn from the mistakes they made by practicing on lower level guys for a while. But if Pascal takes this fight he would be stepping into an even worse style. The only way I can see Pascal beating Cloud is if he can knock him out somehow. I don’t see Pascal being able to knock a fighter with a strong chin like Cloud. This looks like another loss for Pascal unless we see some funny judging in Canada
