Cloud vs. Beterbiev tonight

cloudBy Allan Fox: In a tossup fight, former IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-2, 19 KOs) will be facing two time Russian Olympian Artur Beterbiev (5-0, 5 KOs) tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

The 32-year-old Cloud has clearly slipped a couple of notches in the last three years, and he’s not same exciting fighter that he once was earlier in his career when he was knocking opponents out left and right.

Superman Retains

IMG_2959(Photo credit: Sumio Yamada) By Rachel Aylett: Last night in Montreal, Adonis ‘Superman’ Stevenson successfully managed to quieten his detractors with a clear and dominating victory over American Tavoris Cloud, the former IBF light-heavyweight champion. This fight was for Stevenson’s WBC title at the same weight.

Those aforementioned detractors had suggested that Adonis was just a one-hit wonder after his one round destruction of Chad Dawson which won him the WBC title back in June and that he would soon be found out once he stepped in with an opponent who could take his punches.

Stevenson Destroys Cloud, Easy Tune Up For Pascal

stevenson44By Ciaran McKinney: Tonight from the Bell Center in Quebec, boxing fans were witness to two complete mismatches and some of the most one-sided boxing you could not wish to see. First up, we got a look at Jean Pascal, who was placed in a ‘get the rounds in’ bout against a poor but strong willed fighter by the name of George Blades, the fight was most memorable for the haircut of Pascal.

The fight was simply there to give the home fighter a morale boost and get some minutes under his belt. This bout ended by way of TKO with Blades falling to the 3 knockdown rule. This fight should have been stopped as soon as the the journeyman touched the ground for the second time, with him still reeling and visibly out on his feet after a brutal upper-cut from the massively pumped up Pascal. With little under 5 rounds done and dusted, Pascal will soon begin his camp for his dust up with Lucian Bute.

Weights: Stevenson 173.8, Cloud 174.6

stevenson45 - CopyBy Eric Thomas: Adonis Stevenson weighed in at 173.8 lbs. at today’s weigh-in for his fight tomorrow night on HBO against Tavoris Cloud in Montreal. Canada. Cloud weighed a little heavier at 174.6 lbs.

The fight very well could be the more exciting bout on the night in a split-site double-header with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fighting Brian Vera.

Stevenson has blazing fast hands, and really good power to go along with it. He’s knocked out his last 9 opponents, and he won’t have problems landing his shots on Saturday night against Cloud.

Stevenson wants to get Cloud out of the way so that he can get bigger fights in the future against the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Andre Ward and Carl Froch. Those fights, if they ever materialize, will need to wait until Stevenson defends his title against his mandatory challenger Tony Bellew in early 2014.

Stevenson, 36, believes that a knockout win will make him a more marketable fighter, and he wants to make sure that he can get the hard hitting Cloud out of there as quickly as possible.

In Stevenson’s last fight, he stopped former WBC 175 lb. champion Chad Dawson in the 1st round with his “Superman” last June. Stevenson says he’s going to try the same “Superman” punch against Cloud on Saturday night to see if he can duplicate the results.

bellew22By Scott Gilfoid: #1 WBC, Tony Bellew (20-1, 12 KO’s) is now locked in to face the winner of the September fight between WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and Tavoris Cloud, according to the BBC Sport. Bellew will fight the winner of that bout possibly on November 30th.

Bellew doesn’t match up well at all with Stevenson, so I imagine he’s hoping that Cloud is the guy he’s going to be facing in November because Stevenson would be a nightmare opponent for him.
