Can Humberto Soto replace Robert Guerrero against Marcos Maidana?

By Gerardo Granados: The former WBC super feather and lightweight champion Humberto “Zorrita” Soto is aiming to obtain his third division world title, currently he is programmed to fight against Jose Alfaro next September 3rd at the light welterweight limit so he must be training hard and already could be close to make the weight limit a week before August 27th the date that Marcos “Chino” Maidana was scheduled to engage against Robert “Ghost” Guerrero to dispute the WBA World light welterweight title.

Can Soto get a shot at Maidana as a replacement for the injured Robert Guerrero? I believe this would be a good fight but the major problem would be the financial agreement to sign the fight contract between promoters in such short time. Two quality fighters to engage for the WBA World light welterweight title instead of one in the name of Maidana against some one that could not have even trained properly to face the hard hitting Argentinean.

Humberto Soto vacated his WBC lightweight title in order to fight for the WBC light welterweight stripe but Erik Morales got the chance and Soto was not pleased at all. This could be a good chance for him to obtain his third title belt, and as for Maidana, Soto would be a good name to add to his record if he is able to defeat him, after all Marcos stated that he is 100% ready for the fight and his trainer Rudy Perez stated Maidana is ready for anyone.

Will Soto be interested to fight a risky opponent as Maidana is? Only money will tell if he is interested or will he wait around until the WBC gives him the chance. Promoter could even agree on a September date for the fight and take advantage of the Mexican Independence day to secure high ratings.

But the most important issue could be if boxing fans would be interested to watch this hypothetical bout. I certainly would like to see this fight. Would you be interested to watch it?
