Brook-Jackiewicz: Kell hoping to face Senchenko if he beats Jackiewicz

By Scott Gilfoid: No.2 ranked WBO welterweight contender Kell Brook (24-0, 16 KO’s) is taking a safe fight against No.4 IBF, #10 World Boxing Organization welterweight contender Rafael Jackiewicz (38-9-1, 19 KO’s) on October 8th at the Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK.

I’m really starting to lose respect for Brook because the guy just seems to taking the easy path to the top. Brook, 25, will be defending his little known WBA Inter-Continental welterweight strap in the fight against the 34-year-old Jackiewicz. This fight unfortunately is the step up fight that Brook had been talking about against a “Contender.”

However, I see it as just another safe fight for Brook to take to make sure he stays unbeaten to get a crack at one of the champions. It appears that Brook and his promoter already have one of the welterweight champions picked out for who they want to target. Instead of going after the winner of the Floyd Mayweather Jr or the WBO champion Manny Pacquiao, they have targeted the World Boxing Association paper champion Vyacheslav Senchenko.

In other words, the weakest of the four welterweight champions. I can’t say I’m surprised because selecting Sanchenko, as well as the 34-year-old Jackiewicz, is in keeping with the kinds of soft opposition that Brook has been put in with. I see Senchenko as No.13 in the welterweight division, behind guys like Mayweather, Victor Ortiz, Mike Jones, Shane Mosley, Carlos Quintana, Brad Solomon, Jesus Soto-Karass, Joshua Clottey, Luis Collazo, Jan Zaveck and Randall Bailey.

That would be sad if this is the guy that Brook beats for a belt. I can just see him feasting on the horrible opposition that the WBA has ranked. With careful match-making, Brook could hold onto the WBA title for years without ever getting a test. But first he has to get by his picked out next opponent Jackiewicz. I hope Brook can handle the job, because if he can’t beat this guy he needs to seriously consider another line of work.
