The battle of Britain: Mitchell-Murray preview

By Peter Wells: The war is finally here after an extra delay for a week the two best Lightweights in Britain are ready for combat. Kevin Mitchell will feel this is his last chance at making his world title dream come true after being destroyed in 3 rounds by Aussie Michael Katsidis. John Murray on the other hand is still fresh and unbeaten and feels now is his time to step out of the shadows and into the bright lights.

Both fighters are 26 and both stand at 5’8 making this a physically equal fight. But mentally most believe Murray has a huge advantage. I can only imagine it to be an almighty task to recover from such a devastating defeat. After the fight Mitchell went on a drinking spree but believes now he has recovered.

Despite a good friendship it’s unlikely either fighter will hold back and punches and if it lasts it could be a candidate for fight of the year. The WBO Inter Continental title is the last thing that’s on the fighters minds as they know it won’t really count as anything to the winner as the next step will be much bigger.

Murray knows he’s coming to fight and will put pressure on Mitchell straight away. Kevin may use his speed and skills that he showed against Prescott to outwork his rival. But one believes that he will not be able to resist a tear up. I see this turning into a blistering fight but i see neither fighter gaining enough of an edge to force a stoppage. I believe that with Murray constantly driving forward he’ll get the nod at the end of an amazing fight.
