McCloskey vs. Prescott a possibility for September 10th

By Sean McDaniel: Light welterweight Paul McCloskey (22-1, 12 KO’s) could be facing Colombian knockout artist Breidis Prescott (24-2, 19 KO’s) in McCloskey’s next fight on September 10th at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Dan Rafael reports on his twitter page that this fight is a possibility for McCloskey’s next bout.

This would be a hugely dangerous fight for McCloskey because he looked pretty ordinary in his recent 6th round technical decision loss to WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan last April.

The fight ended with McCloskey getting cut above McCloskey’s left eye from a clash of heads with Khan. The referee, for some reason, pulled the plug on the fight for a tiny cut and never even gave McCloskey’s corner a chance to try and stop the cut. McCloskey, naturally, asked Khan to give him a rematch but Khan said that the only way he would fight McCloskey again is if he fought and beat every fighter that Khan has beaten during his career.

By taking on Prescott, a fighter that knocked Khan out in one round in 2008, McCloskey could make Khan look bad if he’s able to beat a guy that so easily destroyed him. Prescott, however, is looking a really good as of late and is punching with even more power than he did when he handled Khan with ease.

Prescott always had huge power in both hands but now he’s added a powerful jab and movement to his game and it’s hard to see him getting beaten any time soon. McCloskey will be big trouble if he takes this fight, because he doesn’t have the power or the hand speed to compete with Prescott.
