It’s not going to happen. You can tell it’s not because of a couple of things.

First of all, Erik Morales, a Golden Boy Promotions fighter, is facing Jorge Barrios for Timothy Bradley’s WBC light welterweight title in September. Morales should win that fight and then Golden Boy will steer Khan in with Morales for a unification bout.

This fight would give Khan a chance to win a third belt. He’s already won the WBA title, and that’s the belt that Maidana and Guerrero are fighting over in their August 27th fight. The WBA elevated Khan to the “Super World” WBA light welterweight champion, a move no doubt to get more sanctioning fees for the WBA strap that was freed up.

Khan won’t want to fight dangerous guys like Guerrero or Maidana for a title he already won. Khan is going to want to go after what will likely be Morales’ WBC paper title. Morales may not be relevant with newer boxing fans, but he’s still got a large Mexican fan base who remember him when he was a world champion for many years off an on.

They’ll likely be interested in seeing Morales fight Khan for another world title. And last and least, Golden Boy wants to keep their golden goose Khan in tact, and if they take a big risk of letting Khan fight a live body like Maidana again or Guerrero, that golden goose could get plucked clean and exposed to the light of day. That would put the Khan gravy train to a grinding halt before Khan could get put in with Floyd Mayweather Jr in a cash out fight next year.

Golden Boy won’t likely want to take that risk and have Khan get brutally knocked out and miss that huge Mayweather payday. Khan is going to get knocked out in that fight against Mayweather, but it won’t matter because it will pay so well and Khan will have the excuse that he was fighting the best guy in the world or something along those lines.

Khan has been interviewed recently about who he plans on fighting next and in the interviews, Khan has been mentioning Erik Morales first and then say he also could fight the winner of the Guerrero-Maidana fight. Just by who Khan mentions first it pretty much tells you who Khan is likely to face next.
