Haye needed to fight like Mike Tyson to beat Wladimir

Image: Haye needed to fight like Mike Tyson to beat WladimirBy Sean McDaniel: David Haye’s game plan to beat IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko was a failure from the very start with Haye running, tapping with his gloves and trying land one big shot. Like someone said, Haye was the modern day version of David Tua against Lennox Lewis.

Haye threw one punch at a time against one of the best boxer/punchers in the heavyweight division in Wladimir Klitschko. Haye’s trainer Adam Booth needed to have Haye follow a Mike Tyson type attack where Haye would rush forward, get close and hammer Wladimir with 20 to 30 punches thrown within seconds to try and get Wladimir out of there. Haye had already proved in the past to be nearly invincible he opens up with Tyson type flurries in close.

This is why Wladimir was so nervous about fighting him. I don’t know what happened to Haye. Whether it was him lacking the courage and the understanding of what he needed to do to beat Wladimir or just a case of him blindly following his trainer Booth’s game plan of a hit and run attack. It’s such a disappointment when you look at the fight and know that Haye had the tools to beat Wladimir, but he just didn’t use them.

Haye was more than talented enough to score a quick knockout in this fight if he would have just attacked Wladimir full throttle the way that Tyson used to in the past. That’s the reason why Tyson was able to succeed against bigger heavyweights. Tyson just up on them and use his hand speed by throwing a flurry of shots before his taller opponents could react. Haye never even tried to this. That’s why I feel that Haye needs to get a new trainer, someone that can teach him to throw flurries the way that Tyson did and get him to use his assets instead of his tired old plan of throwing one punch at a time and hoping he can score a knockout.
