Adamek-Klitschko: Tomasz will have problems landing his punches against Vitali

By Dan Ambrose: Tomas Adamek (44-1, 28 KO’s) is going to be having a very tough time trying to land anything against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 KO’s) in their fight on September 10th in Poland. We saw Adamek struggling at times to land shots against the painfully slow Kevin McBride in his last fight in April.

Adamek could do nothing even when he was landing. McBride was simply too big and Adamek looked like a tiny cruiserweight in that fight. We saw the same thing when Adamek fought 6’7” Michael Grant. Adamek had problems landing against a fighter that was more or less like a statue the entire fight.

When Grant finally did come alive late in the fight, he was able to stagger Adamek. Grant showed in the very brief time that he opened up with his shots that Adamek’s chin is very vulnerable and that he won’t stand a chance against Vitali.

I give Adamek a ton of credit for getting the title shot against Vitali, because Adamek didn’t have to beat a bunch of young and talented heavyweights like Alexander Povetkin, Odlanier Solis, Denis Boytsov, Ruslan Chagaev or Samuel Peter to get the shot.

All Adamek had to do was beat Chris Arreola, Andrew Golota, Michael Grant, Vinny Maddalone, Kevin McBride, and Jason Estrada to get a fight with Vitali. This is going to be a big step up the ladder for Adamek and one where he’s all of a sudden going to be facing someone that can hit him back instead of just taking shots like a punching bag all night long. Adamek is going to be hit and hit a lot by Vitali. Can Adamek connect when he needs to against Vitali? I don’t think so. His arms are too short and he’ll likely be busy thinking of survival.
