Vitali volunteers to smash Haye

By Sean McDaniel: World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (42-2, 39 Ko’s) is volunteering to put former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 Ko’s) out of his misery and send him into a permanent retirement with a knockout loss.

But for Vitali to fight Haye, the British fighter is going to have to stick around past his October retirement date until at least December or possibly January. Vitali has a fight on September 10th, and because of that he can’t fight Haye in October. But Haye should postpone his October retirement so that he can fight Vitali and redeem himself somewhat to make boxing fans forget about Haye’s humiliating 12 round defeat against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Speaking with the BBC Radio Five, Vitali said “If I had the chances, I’d be happy to beat Haye. David is world famous. He touched me personally. If I have a chance I’ll be happy to send him to the floor.”

Vitali needs to not come across so eager because he’ll scare Haye away if he keeps showing interest like this. Haye is the one that does the picking of opponents and it’s pretty obvious that he wants no part of Vitali. If he did, Haye wouldn’t have backed out from his negotiations with Vitalin in 2009 just to face WBA paper champion Nikolay Valuev. Haye won’t take the fight with Vitali because too dangerous and too good compared to most of the weak opposition Haye has fought during his career.

If Haye is smart, he’ll take the fight with Vitali and try to reverse his bad luck. Haye doesn’t have anything to lose because he can’t get any lower than he is now in terms of public opinion about him.
