Image: Price stops DallasBy Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten heavyweight prospect David Price (11-0, 9 KO’s) made easy work of Tom Dallas (15-1, 11 Ko’s) on Saturday night, stopping Dallas with a single right hand in the 2nd round that put Dallas down for the count at the Olympia, Liverpool, Merseyside, England. The bout was stopped with the 26-year-old Dallas flat on his back at the 2:45 mark of the 2nd.

Price seemed to be fighting a lot like IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko with his fighting style in the two rounds of the action, perhaps in part because Price has been serving as a sparring partner for WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in the role of Wladimir. Price did a great job jabbing and backing away from Dallas in the opening round in the same way that Wladimir often fights. The only thing missing from Price’s game was Wladimir’s excellent jab, left hook and smoother ring moves.

Price looked like a poor man’s version of Wladimir but a decent version. Dallas seemed to have no clue what to do in this fight. When he was in punching position, he didn’t put a lot of power on his combinations and most of his shots were blocked by the gloves and forearms of Price. Dallas did land a small handful or right hands in the opening rounds, but it was Price that did most of the damage with his right hand and short left hooks.

In the second round, Price started throwing more combinations as he seemed to sense that Dallas was fighting scared and was out of his league. Finally, near the end of the round Price landed a hard right hand to the head that collapsed Dallas on his back on the canvas. Referee Vidor Loughlin then stopped the bout.

With this win, Price moves onto a fight against Big John McDermott. Hopefully, Mcdermott can give Price a better fight than Dallas. Price is vulnerable but you have to go at him hard and not let him set the pace as he was doing tonight against the scared looking Dallas.
