By John F. McKenna (McJack): World Boxing Association (WBA) Heavyweight Champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) is still adamant that he will retire on October 13, his 31st birthday. He is also adamant that he will knockout IBF, IBO, WBO and Ring Magazine Champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO’s) on July 2. He had planned on fighting WBC Champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 39 KO’s) before his retirement to unify all the titles, but that may not happen because Vitaly will be facing Tomasz Adamek in September.

The “Hayemaker” has negotiated a 50-50 split of the revenue from the summer spectacular against “Dr. Steelhammer” in Hamburg Germany. In an interview on BBC radio Haye stated that he is sure that he will be making a considerable amount of money but that in reality he does not have a clue how much. It will depend on many different factors, not the least of which is the total PPV sales.

Haye said that the amount of money he makes for the July 2 showdown with Klitschko is secondary in his mind and he does not think about the money he will be making. “It might sound crazy, but I have not really thought about it. It is what it is going to be.”

Haye went on to say that if he started worrying about how much money he would be making he would surely lose and that his only focus is the task at hand and that is defeating Wladimir Klitschko.

A bulging bank account, according to Haye, is irrelevant. “What matters more than anything in the world is returning to England in three weeks time with three world titles. As long as I have those belts around my waist at the end of the fight, that is the only thing that matters to me,” he said.

Haye said “I have to be in it for the glory. I have to be in it to unify the titles. To do that on foreign territory is not going to be easy. But I have done it in the past and it’s 100% certain that I will do it again.”

David Haye is making it clear that he definitely thinks he can win against Wladimir Klitschko. He knows the difficulty in the task before him, but he is confident of victory and that he will return to his homeland with Klitscko’s championship belts.
