David Price needs to step it up a level

By Sean McDaniel: Unbeaten former Olympian heavyweight David Price (11-0, 9 KO’s) easily beat a slow and lethargic looking Tom Dallas (15-1, 11 KO’s) last night in a 2nd round stoppage.

The end came quickly with a hard right hand from Price that put Dallas flat on his back on the canvas where he didn’t even try to get up to beat the count. Price’s right hand power was impressive, although his jab was rather lacking.

Price didn’t have to worry about meeting any resistance in this bout because Dallas attempted few punches and wasn’t putting a lot of power into his shots. It in effect made Price look a lot better than he really is.

Now Price is going to be facing John McDermott next. If Price were a younger fighter in his early 20s, I would suggest he take a fight against McDermott. However, Price is 27-years-old and it’s pretty much a waste of time for him to be fighting another domestic level guy that has little chance of beating or even competing with Price.

He needs to forget about career wasting fights that suck of time and focus on quickly moving up against better fighters so that Price can get a title shot before he turns 30. Look at Price and compare him to fighters like IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and WBA champ David Haye, both of which accomplished a lot before they turned 30.

Price needs to move on and put his career in an accelerated mode. He doesn’t need guys like McDermott or whichever domestic level heavyweight that is positioned for him to fight after the McDermott bout. If Price keeps wasting time like this, he may end up losing his best years facing domestic level guys instead of going after a heavyweight title.
