Image: It’s Showtime in Vegas – Pacquiao vs. MosleyBy Frank (Frankly) Livingstone: The big crowd that gathered at MGM grand last Tuesday would have alerted a number of tourists that a big event is happening in the Sin City. For the local residents, it was an indication that the PACMAN is back in town. This is the 12th time that Pacquiao is fighting in Vegas with the last one against Miguel Cotto in November 2009. His last two fights were held at the Cowboy Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

But this fight is different from the other 11 fights he had in Vegas or in his boxing career. This time around he will be fighting his first African American slick fighter in Shane Mosley. Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Margarito and David Diaz were Mexican Americans who tasted defeat at the hands of the Congressman. But as I mentioned in one of my articles, this may not be the fight that B Hopkins had in mind when he mentioned that Pacquiao would have difficulty in handling an African American style of boxing.

Manny Pacquiao has been embraced by the American public of which a majority admired him highly than Floyd Mayweather Jr. This has led to Floyd’s frustration when he said “The only thing I want is the people in my country to stand behind me. I’m in my own country and I have a lot of people against me.”

But enough about Floyd, this is the time for Shane Mosley to shine after a lacklustre performance from his two previous fights. A number of boxing experts has called this fight a mismatch and some even fear for Shane’s well being. The picture of the battered face of Antonio Margarito in his last fight with Pacquiao is a vivid image on what is in store for Mosley. But Shane Mosley is still confident of an upset recalling the same underdog position he had when he fought Antonio Margarito and Oscar De la Hoya where he emerged victorious.

This is also the first time that a Pacquiao fight will be shown in a Showtime Pay Per View. But a number of boxing commentators are calling for a boycott of this fight so it will be interesting what the numbers will show for this fight. Similar calls for boycott were made on the Margarito fight but the PPV still reached 1.15 million buys.

Whatever the outcome of the fight, here in the QH suburb Down Under, I would be looking forward to a spectacular entertainment that Las Vegas is always known for. It’s Showtime in Vegas.
